I am not self-employed. I am required to use my personal vehicle for work. I do get $0.40 per mile. Can I get a refund for the difference between standard rate?

Employee business expenses are not deductible on nor reported on a federal tax return due to the tax code changes in effect for tax years 2018 thru 2025.

No, not on your Federal return.  Under current tax law employee business expenses are no longer deductible as part of the Federal return, unless you fall into a very specific category of employment (reservists, performing artists, fee-based government official to name a few).

However, certain states still allow the deduction.  If your state still allows the deduction, you would enter the information as part of your Federal return so that it will transfer to your state return.
