Differences in Clergy Housing Allowance on SE for TT Premier 2024 and 2025

Hello,

I am new to this forum but not new to Turbo Tax or doing clergy taxes.

Using TurboTax Premier - 2024 PC, 2025 Mac

Here is the situation for both 2024 and 2025:

W-2 Box 1 does not include housing allowance

W-2 Box 14 reports housing allowance

TT Check the box for Religous Employment

TT Check the box for Clergy

TT Page - OK, tell us about your clergy housing

2024 TT on PC -

Parsonage or housing allowance received - filled with box 14 number

Qualifying expenses - what was actually spent

This scenario inputs the housing allowance received number onto the SE worksheet

If Parsonage or housing allowance received is left blank, there is no housing allowance reported on SE worksheet

2025 TT on Mac

Parsonage or housing allowance received - filled with box 14 number

Qualifying expenses - what was actually spent

This scenario inputs the box 14 PLUS housing allowance received number onto the SE worksheet, resulting in DOUBLE the housing allowance for SE.

If Parsonage or housing allowance received is left blank, then the correct housing allowance from box 14 is reported on SE worksheet.

I checked this by substituting different numbers so that I could see where the values were coming from.

What is going wrong? I have looked and looked at both of them side by side and I don't see any difference.

The software has probably changed how it reads box 14. Box 14 used to be an informational box. Now, it is being used for tax purposes for many items. This means, it is already entered on the housing and worksheet and it is no longer necessary for you to enter it again.

Instead of changing numbers around, since you are on a Mac, you can switch to Forms mode and select a cell to determine its source(s).

Select View and choose Forms mode.
Since you are used to the PC and Forms mode, you will find there are a few differences. Instead of a right click, you may need to double click or look for an option from the top row - depending on the cell.
