If the adult you are supporting has lived with you for the whole tax year and had less than $4300 of income (not counting Social Security) then you may be able to claim them as a qualified relative dependent, and get the $500 credit for other dependents. For 2021 ONLY, you may also get the $1400 recovery rebate credit for an adult you can claim as a dependent. If you did not claim the person on your 2020 return, you can amend 2020 to claim them for that year as well.

What is the $500 Credit for Other Dependents (“Family Tax Credit”)?
