topic Senior Deduction in Tax law changes

It appears that single filers and joint filers each have a $100,000 phase-out range. At a 6% rate, this range phases out $6,000 for singles. But that same range also phases out $12,000 for joint filers. I thought the phase-out rate was 6% [this comes out to be 12% for MFJ]. Thanks.

The maximum deduction is $6,000 for each person. The phaseout is 6% of the amount by which MAGI exceeds $75,000 for single or $150,000 for married filing jointly (MFJ). On a joint return the phaseout is calculated separately for each person, so the 6% phases out $6,000 for each person.
