I always choose the "walk me through everything" selection while inputting the information.

I know that I did input these deductions for the last few years?

can a fireman paramedic deduct anything from purchasing a 25k houseboat to stay in stead of hotel rooms for work, he paid 25k cash and pays 1800 a month in docking fees, and he does own a home.

The houseboat has a bed and a bathroom

When you have a boat as a second home you can deduct mortgage interest if the boat has cooking, sleeping and bathroom facilities. But you say you paid cash--so there is no interest to deduct, nor is there any property tax to enter. Sorry---it does not seem that you have anything about your houseboat to enter on a tax return.

So they also cannot claim anything on the docking fees every month, this paid in stead of hotel costs?

The tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond eliminated job-related expenses as a deduction on federal tax returns for W-2 employees. Some state tax laws are different.

When you use TurboTax software the information flows from the federal return to the state return. So even though the job-related expenses you entered are not deductible on the federal return, you can still enter them in the federal return software. The information just flows over to your state return, and if your state allows any of those expenses as deductions, the software will follow your state's laws.
