topic Help with 1095-A, self employed and W2, allocation involved in Self employed

Hello,

I am 26 and last year was on my mom’s marketplace insurance plan (MNSure). She made all the payments but as I’ve read, it appears the only way a deduction could come out is if I allocate 100% of the premiums to me and she claims 0%, as her income was only 5k for the year (made payments with savings). From what I read, it does not matter who made the payments when it comes to allocation.

As I’m doing this, I am not seeing our entire premium amount of 6800 on my refund, after inputting the 1095-A (I’m positive it’s correct) and allocating 100% to me. My tax owed only went down by $300.

Oddly enough, when I get to the question “are you self employed and bought a marketplace plan”, if I select “NO” then the 6800 whole amount is added to my refund. Also, if I select “yes” but then skip the next question “which business was associated with this policy” and don’t select anything, the $6800 shows up.

So how do I go about this? From what I’ve read on forums, it seems this is a common issue that TT cannot support allocation of the marketplace plan when one person is tied to a business. I make 25k from self employment and 5k from a W2. Is it okay not to associate the policy with my business? Or is this a massive mistake.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.
