Dear Representative,

I am writing to request assistance regarding an issue with my tax refund application.

I have been informed that my refund request could not be processed due to a mismatch between my name and Social Security Number (SSN) in your records. I respectfully request guidance on how to resolve this discrepancy.

As I am currently residing outside the United States, I am unable to contact your office by phone. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate your assistance in advising me on the necessary steps to correct this issue and proceed with my refund. Can you share with me any e-mail for communication?

A mismatch social security and name on your return means the name and social security number that you entered doesn't match the records of the Social Security Administration. Follow the instructions below to fix the fix the error by entering Your first and last names as they appear on your social security card.

To fix a rejected TurboTax return:

Select "Fix my return" to identify the error code and reason
Correct the data (e.g., SSN, PIN, or AGI)
Go to the file section to resubmit.

Thank you so much for your help, but as you said, I can't find it. I think I can't see it because it hasn't been rejected yet. However, it said "didn't process" and that I needed to correct it. @SharonD007

TurboTax doesn't maintain records of people and their social security numbers. The system has no way of knowing whether they match or not. That's the IRS. So the error that you have received is from submitting a tax return to the IRS and having the tax return sent back from the IRS because the name and social security number on the tax return don't match.

If you don't have the "Fix my return" button available then that means that it hasn't been rejected. If it wasn't rejected please share where you received the "mismatch" error message from? It would help to correct the error if we understood it better.

I checked with the IRS and it said didn't process because the SSN and name didn't match.

So then it was rejected by the IRS. So you need to follow the steps laid out by @SharonD007 above and correct the problem. You say you can't find your tax return. Can you log in to your TurboTax account? If you can then you should be able to look at your tax return and see the name and social security number that you entered there. Compare them to what is on your social security card and be certain that they match.

Check for the IRS Transcript for 2025 using the information below for 'Current Year...' to see if you can confirm acceptance.

If your tax return has been accepted you might also be able to access your transcript from the IRS.

No, I couldn't solve my problem because when I entered the address for the transcript, the system didn't accept it and I still couldn't see anything.
