Self employed & on medicare. Health insurance is on both schedule A lines (2a + 2c) and on Form 7206 line 1. A double ins. deduction why aren't lines 2a & 2c zero?

I tried to edit Schedule A but I can't remove line 2c (medicare premiums). The only way that I can "fix" the double counting of health insurance is to make line 2a a negative number to "cancel" line 2c. Is there a better solution?

If you qualify for the self-employed health insurance deduction, you can treat your Medicare premiums as self-employed health insurance. So, don't enter the Medicare premiums with your Social Security Form SSA-1099 form entry or in the Medical section if you pay for them directly. Only enter them in the business section where you enter your self-employed medical insurance premiums. Then they will just appear on Form 7206.

Thank you - I was thinking of doing exactly like you said and yes, that would fix it. Since this is a medical expense worksheet, it really had no impact on my federal return so I didn't catch the error until I saw a large medical deduction on my NJ return. That's how I found the problem.

I would have thought that the software would have caught this error and put in a fix blocking medicare premiums on schedule A when it is being reported on Form 7206. Seems like a software bug to me.
