just complete the 2020 tax return. Everything is based on your 2020 income and filing status; what occurred in 2018/2019 no longer matters. There are questions at the END of the interview that will reconcile what you are due. Any credit will appear on LINE 30 of Form 1040 and will increase your refund (or reduce what you owe). At this point TT only has programmed in the first stimulus and it's expected (we hope!) that the 2nd stimulus is programmed in by the time the submission window opens in late January.

does that help??

I did this and it only gave me credit for me, not for my son who it was supposed to.

questions:

1) how old is your son as of 12/31/20

2) how much stimulus did you receive on the 1st payment?

He is a little over 9 months ans I recieved 700 for myself. According to all the tax articles, I should be receiving the remainder amount for myself and the full amount for him but it isn't giving me the credit for him on turbo tax

okay - got it

here are the two mistakes most people make - can you please recheck..

1) when it asked how many months your child lived with you, for a new born you need to use 'all year' - don't respond with the number of months since his birth

2) there is a question that is worded funny, but it asks did THE CHILD provide more than 50% of HIS support. You are to answer "no"

Also, do you file single? the fact that you received $700 the first time suggests that your stimulus is limited by your income. that could be the problem. if your income is over $95,000 on the 2020 tax return, you are not eligible for more.

please check and respond back. and again, TT is only programmed for the first stimulus at this point, but let's get that to work.

I did that. I figured out what wasn't working. It didn't give me the credit until I actually put his social security number in.
