My wife is the executor of an estate for her son's father. His father died in 2019 and he received a $1,200 stimulus check this week. Should I deposit it in the estate account or return to the IRS and notify them? Most questions related to deceased persons are regarding a lost spouse in which case they are advising to keep the check. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, CBLDMJMM.

Sorry for your loss

if you believe "doing the right thing" is returning the money then send the money and a short note to the IRS and stating he passed and you want to return it.

it is uncertain if they will ask for it back - see attached article

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/22/government-sending-checks-to-dead-people-199085
