Do we need a credit score?

There are many opinions on the credit score. Do we really need it? How important is it? Personally I try to keep my credit score as high as I can, but at the same time I try to reduce my debts and the main purpose of the credit score seems to be to increase debts, so it seems inconsistent.

So do we need to maintain our credit score or not?

Yes, because the score affects a lot beyond your ability to obtain credit or a certain amount of credit.
