Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my return now?” If you did that, you cannot do anything to fix it yet. You have to wait for the email that tells you if your return was accepted or rejected.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.

If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. The IRS starts to accept/reject 2023 returns on January 29.

If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.

If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.

Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed

Okay---now I am confused. It seemed like you were saying you included a 2022 tax document on a 2023 tax return. Now you say no, it was not for 2023. Is it something that should have been included with your 2022 return? If so you can amend 2022.

I submitted my travel voucher refund early it was supposed to be submitted for this year but I submitted it for last years tax refund. I was wondering if I need to submit it again since I got the w-2 for it recently and I was suppose to submit it for this years refund instead of last year

If you retired in 2023 then you will receive a Form 1099-R from DFAS for your retirement income. If you were also active military in 2023 you will receive a W-2 for 2023 from DFAS.

I took terminal leave December 28, 2022 I then received my reimbursement Feb 2023 for doing my own move I put that on my taxes for 2022 because I didn’t know that I was going to receive a w-2 for it this year. So now I got the w-2 form and don’t know if I have to apply it to this years taxes. Even though I added it to last year

It seems you received a W-2 recently than says "2023" on it. You need to enter that on your 2023 tax return. If you included that income somehow on your 2022 tax return, you need to amend your 2022 tax return to remove it if that will result in a refund.

If you need to amend your return, you will see an option to do that on your home page when you log into TurboTax. Look at the bottom of the page, under Your Tax Return and Documents. Click on the year you want to amend and choose the Amend (Change) option.
