topic 1099 for school employee retirement system in Retirement tax questions

I am preparing my mothers return. She has a pension she received from the school system as a bus driver. It is exactly the same as all previous years since 2002. This year turbo tax is calculating her taxable pension and non-taxable pensions differently so I am comparing 2018 and 2019 to find the problem. When I enter her pension this year instead of asking 'is this from a qualified plan', it is asking 'if she inherited it', and if she took the required RMD. This account is NOT subject to an RMD. She has an account that is and she received the required RMD already. This appears to be a problem in turbo tax. What do I do?

I recommend reviewing the input and comparing it to your 1099-R to confirm all of the codes and boxes match what is reflected on the form.

It sounds like a different code may have been entered into the program. If one question is answered slightly differently, it will go through a different series of questions to ensure the retirement distribution is taxed correctly.

If you are still having issues, I would delete that particular 1099-R form and re-enter it.
