I started a pension in 2010, but this year they split the amount into 2 1099Rs from different companies. Do I have to do anything special other than just enter the numbers? I reduced the number of payments on the original 1099R from 12 to 6, but it did not ask me for number of payments on the second 1099R.

Yes, you should enter both of the 1099-Rs.

I'm not sure of the significance of the months.
