If any one employer withheld too much social security tax...

If any one employer withheld
too much social security tax you cannot claim the
excess as a credit against your income tax. Your employer should adjust
the excess for you. If the employer does not adjust the overcollection,
you can use Form 843 to claim a refund. Form 843 Instructions

If you had more than
one employer and your total wages and compensation were over the wage
base limit for the year, the total social security tax may have exceeded the maximum
amount due for the tax year. If this is the case then TurboTax will calculate the excess payment and you will receive a credit for that amount on your tax return.

The way it should work is:

If the two companies for the two W-2s have different EINs and yet the total amount of Social Security withheld across all your W-2s (and Schedule SEs, if any) exceeds $8239.80, then the excess of Social Security tax withheld over $8239.80 should appear on line 11 on Schedule 3 (Form 1040), and on line 8d on form 1040.

Do two or more of the W-2s come from the same employer?
