To enter your SA-1099-SM, please follow the steps below:

Sign in to TurboTax (if you're not already signed in).
Click on the Take me to my Return button
Click on the Federal Taxes tab
Click on the Wages and Income tab
Scroll down to the Retirement Plans and Social Security section
Select Start and follow the interview questions

I agree, these 2019 instructions are COMPLETELY wrong in 2022.

How hard can it be to enter income? Turbotax makes it very hard. I had 3 income slips to enter last nite, including a 1099-NEC, and couldn't find anywhere to enter them in Turbotax 2022.

I am still looking but will probably end up having to go thru the step-by-step Turbotax process to eventually get these entered.

@Gooseneck1000 Which TurboTax program are you using? The online web-based edition where you have to enter a User ID and Password to access? Or the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your personal computer?

If you are self-employed and received a Form 1099-NEC that income is entered in the section for Self-Employment, nowhere else. If using the online editions you need the Self-Employed edition. If using the desktop CD/Download editions, any edition can be used.

Other types of personal income is always entered in the Wages & Income section of the program.

Click on Federal

Click on Wages & Income

Scroll down for the type income you need to enter, W-2, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, SSA-1099, 1099-R, 1099-G, 1099-K, etc.

What income are you trying to enter?

The original post on this thread was for a SSA-1099. If this is what you are trying to enter then this procedure will take you to the section needed -

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Or enter ssa-1099 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ssa-1099

If you’re trying to enter your Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) in TurboTax CD/Desktop:

Select Federal Taxes in the banner
Select Wages & Income
On the How do you want to enter your income? page, select I'll choose what I work on
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security, and select Start to the right of Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)
On the Did you receive Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits in 2022? page, answer Yes
On the Tell us about the benefits you received screen, select the checkbox to the left of Social Security benefits (Form SSA-1099)
Enter the information as reflected on your Form SSA-1099, then select Continue
