You can find most of this information on your 2016 State tax return. This is the total of all tax you paid to the state in 2016 including

Amounts withheld from your 2016 W-2, 1099 , etc

Estimated tax payments made for 2016

Overpayment (refund) of 2015 state taxes applied to 2016 state taxes

Any other payments made to the state which were considered prepaid tax

The easiest way to get this amount is to look at your 2016 tax return and get all the tax paid in . We can not see your information so I do not know what state you are in to give any more specific directions.

Hi Kerri, thanks for your response! I was in California for a few weeks in 2016. Is the answer to this question the "CA income tax withheld" on my state return? The "total of all taxes and withholding" to me means more than that, I interpret it as social security, medicare, federal and state withholdings on the 2016 CA state return. I'm not sure if its the first box I mentioned, or the total of all the others.
