Unless you entered your retirement plan distribution in the 1099-R (retirement income) section of TurboTax exactly as its shown on the 1099-R, it may not be entered correctly on your tax return. It depends on whether the amount ended up where it should on the tax return whether you will need to amend or not. How did you enter it without the 1099-R form?

I am not sure if I did it correctly now. There was something checked off on my w2 and I thought that is what it was for, for the retirement plan amount. It is showing a different amount on the 1099-R form so I am assuming that I need to amend. How do I do that?

To amend your return, you need to wait until the IRS processes your original return. If it is rejected, you can make the necessary changes to your original return and resubmit it with no need to prepare an amended return.

If it is accepted, you need to wait until the IRS processes it and sends your refund if you are getting one. You can then begin the amending process. Do not change your original return until you start the amended form 1040X. It will not be available in Turbotax until February. The amended return must be prepared, printed, signed and mailed by you. It can't be efiled. It takes the IRS about 16 weeks to process an amended return.
