Form 8880 is auto-generated. It cannot simply be deleted. To cause TurboTax to remove Form 8880 from your tax return, indicate in the Retirement savings contributions credit section that you were a full-time student. This will have no effect on any other part of your tax return.

I had to go back and put in that I was a full time student to delete the saver's credit. It didn't make sense because I was not a full time student, but that's the only way I could file my return through the free turbo tax. I was getting a fake number saying "Congratulations you received a saver's credit of $125 for contributing to a retirement fund which I did not contribute to and I said "No" when asked if I contributed. Then the you must pay for deluxe or I could not put my return through. I kept deleting my return and starting over again 3 times before I figured out how to get around this glitch!!
If TurboTax was giving you a $125 Saver's Credit, you either entered an IRA contribution (including possibly applying a prior-year excess contribution as a current-year contribution), a self-employed retirement contribution, your W-2 entry showed code D, E, F, G, H, S, AA, BB or EE in box 12 for a retirement contribution or you indicated that you made after-tax contributions to an employer plan. Without one of these, TurboTax would not be giving you this credit. So if you truly made no retirement contributions, one of the aforementioned entries is erroneous and needs correcting.

The suggestions to simply delete the Form 8880 were invalid; it has never been possible to simply delete the auto-generated Form 8880. To cause the form to be removed, you must indicate to TurboTax that you do not qualify for the credit by indicating in the Retirement Savings Contributions section that you were a full time student.

I did not enter anything about an IRA. In fact, I cleared my form three times to make sure but at the end it wants to give me a $64 credit and says I must upgrade to file. After four times of making sure I didn't enter anything for a credit, I'm about to give up on Turbo Tax. Does anyone know how to get this off. I wasn't a full time student so I don't want to lie on the return.

I tried changing return to reflect student status to remove the $59 credit for retirement contribution. It removed it and lowered the return amt by $59 but when I tried to file the new excuse that required me to upgrade was that I paid excessive social security tax. So I changed it back and it only showed the retirement contribution reason again. But it wants $150 for a $59 credit. I am switching to HR Block and see what that program does.
