topic Backdoor roth in Retirement tax questions

hi all,

I did the back door roth conversion for the first time last year. So I contribute 7000 towards 2024 and 7000 towards 2025 but did not file or amend 2024 taxes.

I got the 1099 – R form from Vanguard this year.

My question is: do I need to go back and amend 2024 taxes as well?

No, you do not need to amend your 2024 return if you did not report the non-deductible Traditional IRA contribution, but you do need to file Form 8606 for that contribution.

Take a look at the information in the following TurboTax help article. Near the bottom of the article there is a section for instructions about what to do in your situation with regard to Form 8606.
