topic Does "Do It Yourself" Premium not allow entering of Social Security SSA-1099 amounts? in Retirement tax questions

I scanned the SSA-1099-SM forms I received - but the amounts were not interpreted or processed. I don't find anywhere to enter data from the SSA. I'll continue to hunt, but I think this interface is very unhelpful. This is my first year of trying ONLINE filing, rather than Desktop, which I've liked in past years. 7 hours into it now, I think my choice this year might have been a bad one.

The online version doesn't bring up anything other than 'revisit' - and clicking on it simply brings back another 'revisit' - a useless loop. I decided to switch to the desktop version, assuming that entering the SSA-1099-SM would be simple there...but it still was a problem in the line-by-line prompt mode. It never gave me an opportunity to enter the data that way. I finally succeeded by going to view FORMS - and requesting the SSA-1099 form - which actually brought up something more like a 'worksheet'. I was able to type in the few numbers that the form contains (income, medicare part B amounts for self and spouse) that way. All looks ok...except I don't know if Turbotax was able to compute correctly what portion of the SSN payments were going to be taxable. I'm just gonna have to trust that it did get SOMETHING right! (I'm kinda shocked that this glaring bug exists in the software - and I got the impression that it isn't just the 2025 year version that had this problem.)

I just noticed that in your original post you mention that you "scanned" your SSA1099. You were supposed to just key that in by hand. If you have finally gotten it entered, you should see the SS amount on line 6a and the taxable amount on line 6b of your Form 1040.

Thanks for trying to help me here. I DID initially try the SCAN feature, using my phone to take the picture, which automatically uploaded the picture to TurboTax's interpreting engine. It told me it was unable to process it, presumably implying that it didn't capture any of the numbers from the SSA-1099-SM form. It DID retain the picture for some reason. As I continued working in the ONLINE Do-it-Yourself Premium version, and it began reporting a running total of what my tax liability/refund was, I tried drilling down to see the numbers it was using (from my W-2, other 1099-s, etc.) and it didn't contain any indication that it had my Social Security values.

I then tried to find ways to enter the values manually - and found a "Revisit" rather than "Edit" (or maybe it says "UPDATE") next to the Soc Security field. Clicking on Revisit simply took me back to Revisit. A horrible, useless loop!

I then resorted to downloading the Desktop Version of the product, which is the version I've used in all prior years - so I had had pretty good experience with THAT interface. I found the area for entering Social Security by hand - in the Step-by-Step process - and it didn't permit me to input anything there either! Something to do with a Canadian Pension Fund question. Anyway, I ended up going to the Forms view, requested the SSA-1099 form - and it brought up a two column worksheet (one column for my values and one for my spouse's values). I was able to put my numbers into that form, and the taxes seem to have been computed correctly now.
