I entered the 1099r under the income section. It is not an rmd.

I converted $100,000 from my traditional ira to a Roth IRA in 2025. It appears turbotax is treated it as an excess contribution to a Roth IRA subject to addtional tax. I selected conversion in the section. This additonal tax seems incorrect. What should I do to correct this in Turbotax premire.

Did you enter it under Deductions & Credits? Only enter the 1099R. Or do you have yo take the RMD? You can’t convert the RMD amount. You have to take a distribution for the RMD or you will have an excess accumulation penalty.

Hey Volvo Girl!

You were right on. I had an entry in the deductions and credits that caused the problem. That additional tax is gone. Hurray,

Thanks so much.
