topic 1009-R Box 7 G, but showing as taxable in Federal Review in Retirement tax questions

I've entered my 1009-R. Box 2a is correctly entered as $0.00. Box 7 is correctly entered with a G. All other boxes are empty. The program asks about rollover to a Roth 401k but never confirms the amount was rolled to aTraditional IRA. It now shows up as taxable income/distribution in Federal Review. How does this get fixed to remove the amount from taxable income?

Check the result on Form 1040 line 5b. If box 2a contains a zero, it's implausible that this distribution is adding anything to line 5b. It's also implausible that with code G in box 7 that TurboTax would not be marking the ROLLOVER box next to line 5b.

To verify that your annuity rollover reported on Form 1099-R with code G in box 7 is not showing as taxable on your tax return, review your Form 1040. To do so in TurboTax Online:

With your return open in TurboTax Online...

Click on Tax Tools in the menu on the left.

Click on Tools in the drop-down menu.

In the pop-up menu, click on View Tax Summary.

Click on Preview my 1040 in the left-hand menu and review your Form 1040

You will see that amount of your annuity rollover is not included in Box 5b, the taxable portion of Pensions and Annuities.

[Edited 02-16-2026, 2:32 PM PST]

The 1040 does remove the amount from the 1099-R. Intuit needs to fix the breakdown of income in the "Why do I owe $X" overview in Federal review. My "Why do I owe $X" overview is showing the 1099-R amount as included (which should not be included, and is correctly excluded on the 1040).

But I now see another error where the "Other income from Schedule 1" in "Why do I owe $X" doesn't match the 1040 Line 8 amount (Additional Income from Schedule 1 Line 10).

I think that mismatch on 1040 Line 8/Schedule 1, Line 10 is an issue related to not receiving all the prompts to offset money drawn from a 529 plan. I can't figure out why the "Why do I owe $X" overview is giving a correct answer and the 1040 Line 8 is wrong. I suspect it has something to do with my inability to get to a prompt that asked for qualified expenses that are not paid to the university and not on the 1098-T. Any tips on how to force a prompt to enter eduction expenses not included in a 1098-T?
