The 1099 does not show either a TIN or EIN for Social Security. I printed all pages and there is not one posted.

If your Form 1099 does not have a TIN, you can try entering "99-9999999," or leaving it blank. Always make sure your SSN is in the recipient field.

You can try contacting the issuer of the Form 1099 to get the proper TIN. You can ask for a corrected Form 1099 but you do not have to wait until you get it to file as long as you have the TIN. This would be the most accurate way to file.

Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

If it's asking for an EIN number you are entering it in the wrong place. There is no EIN on social security SSA-1099. So delete it and enter it in the right place.

If you only get ssi or SS or SSDI it is not taxable and you do not have to file a return.

Try going to the search box and type in SSA-1099 or Social Security Benefits. That will give you a Jump To link to take you directly to it.

OR

Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099 under

Federal Taxes on the left side or top

Wages and Income

Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

Then the second line - Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Revisit button
