Apparently, there is an issue with the 1099-R form in Turbotax. The forms are flagged as available soon in the step by step view. When you click the link to be notified, it takes to a page for the 3903 form - Moving Expenses, which is pretty much useless. The form 1099-R is available in the forms view section. You have to find it there and open a new form. I recommend searching using the term "1099-R" in the search bar. Otherwise click the plus next to 1040/1040SR Wks at the top of the list. It is in that list. Give it a name and it will open. You may have to do this several times if you have more than one. It's a tad more complicated than the step by step one but it does work and updates figures and calculations as expected. Not sure why it doesn't work in step by step area. Looks like they need to "turn it on" in that portion of the program. Hopefully they will fix it when they get my ticket in Tech. Supp.
