topic I have a 1099-R for an annuity from a life insurance company that came to me upon my dad's death in March 2024. Is that considered survivor benefits for Ohio state taxes? in Retirement tax questions

I know that the amount on the 1099-R is taxable for federal income, but Tax Act indicated that in Ohio "survivor benefits" aren't taxable. I just don't know whether to remove the annuity for state tax purposes or not.

Are the survivor benefits reported on an IRS form 1099-R? Does the form include a taxable amount in box 2a?

See - that's the thing. It's an annuity through a life insurance policy my dad had. I did receive a 1099-R with the amount in box 2a that is taxable, and I've reported that on my federal return.

But I saw the thing in the Ohio state return about "survivor benefits" and wondered whether this annuity counted.
