topic Estimated tax payments in Retirement tax questions

In 2023 my quarterly estimated tax payments were $5000, which I paid.

In 2024 we did a smaller Roth conversion than anticipated. So now I am getting a refund, and my 2024 estimated tax payments are $2500.

In 2025 I plan to increase my Roth conversion.

Where/how do I change my estimated tax payments back to $5000?

There are several ways to do this. You can either directly increase the payments online at eftps.gov (no voucher needed); change the vouchers you printed manually; print vouchers and fill in as desired from the IRS 1040-ES; or update in TurboTax and reprint.

Here is how to update in TurboTax Online:

Navigate to Federal Taxes > Other Tax Situations

Go to Other Tax Forms

Start or Revisit Form W-4 and Estimated Taxes

Continue past the W-4 section to get the estimated tax section, Estimated Taxes for 2025

You will be asked if you want to adjust your income or deductions, answer yes, and manipulate the answers to increase your tax (in other words, estimate up income and/or down expenses)

If you have been paying estimates then the IRS probably sends you some prefilled 1040ES slips to mail back. I just got mine in the mail. My info is on them but the Amount is blank. So after I figure out how much I want to pay I write in the amount. And then the IRS slips fit in the envelopes.

I have Windows Home & Business too. Switch to Forms mode and open the Est Tax Options worksheet and play with the options. I also use the What-If Worksheet to help estimate my income for 2025. To find the What-If Worksheet. Go to Forms Mode, click Forms in the upper right or on the left for Mac. Then click Open Forms box in the top of the column on the left. Open the US listing of forms and towards the bottom find the What-if worksheet. It's right under Estimated Taxes.
