It does not matter that they were your (employee) contributions, if Box 5 on your 1099-R is for health insurance, you should answer "yes" to the question that follows asking if the amount in Box 5 is for Health Insurance Premiums and enter the full amount.

Box 5 could also report Roth IRA Contributions.

If the amount in Box 5 on your 1099-R (Civil Service or other) is NOT reporting Roth contributions, it is ONLY reporting Insurance payments, so in that case, enter the full amount as insurance.

Or...it is possible that you are entering it as a 1099-R, and should be entering it as a CSA-1099-R.

Look at the left-side of your paper retirement tax form......there is likely some tiny vertical text there indicating that it is actually a CSA-1099-R, and not a plain 1099-R?

If it is a CSA-1099-R, you should delete the 1099-R you entered, and re-enter it correctly as a CSA-1099-R.

(that is.....IF...if you did accidently enter it as a plain 1099-R)

DO NOT upload a picture or PDF file of that form....the tax software will get it wrong....enter it manually, selecting the CSA-1099-R sub-type as you walk thru the manual entry procedure.

______________________

I tried it using the Desktop software with $300 in box 5 of a CSA-1099-R, and then entered a "0" for the amount that was for insurance. I didn't get any prompt to review it during the error checks.
