I am married and wish to file jointly (e-file) with my wife as I've done in the past. But this time, e-file won't go through because there is a Red X in the box where I chose Married Filing Jointly. How to I clear that?

Go back to the personal info section and double check that everything is correct. Did you say someone else could claim her as a dependent? Is it giving you any type of explanation for the red x?

Vanessa, Your advice was right on point! I reviewed the personal information section and for some reason the box was checked that said "Check this box to print "DUAL-STATUS STATEMENT on Form 1040". I unchecked it and everything went thru fine. E-filing completed. Thanks so much! You made my day!
