topic Excess Social Security - PEO in Retirement tax questions

I have excess social security tax withheld due to 2 employers that use the same PEO (ADP). ADP says they will not provide a refund and that I should file the excess on Schedule 3 Line 11. Turbo Tax does not allocate the excess to this line and instead suggests I contact my employer for a refund. IRS guidance says that Schedule 3 Line 11 is where to denote excess Social Security for two jobs. How do I get around this with TurboTax software?

This will happen when your W-2s have the same EIN, as TurboTax believes them to be the same employer, which is not eligible for the refund of excess from multiple employers.

You will need to file IRS form 843 and mail it separately for your refund. You will find a link to that form and it's instructions here under the single employer "what if my employer can't or won't cooperate": Can I get a refund of excess Social Security tax withheld?

In the TurboTax software, to clear the error you will need to correct the Box 4 amount on one or both of your W-2s so that the total social security tax is .062 of your income not to exceed 10,453.
