topic amended return using form 4852 in Retirement tax questions

I have to file an amended return since I had an incorrect 1099R from an annuity company. The company refuses to correct the 1099R so I have to file a form 4852. How do I do this in TT? Do I put the correct figures in on the 1099R and check the box that states this is a corrected 1099R? Obviously I will have to include the form 4852 when I submit my corrected return.

You do not mark the CORRECTED box on TurboTax's 1099-R form unless it was marked on the Form 1099-R that you are disputing. Enter the Form 1099-R as received except for the boxes in which you are substituting corrected values.

However, I haven't found any posts of yours where you mention why you believe that the Form 1099-R is erroneous. Forms 1099-R and the tax code associated with distributions reported on Forms 1099-R are complicated, so it's not uncommon for someone to believe that a Form 1099-R is erroneous when it is not. Perhaps it would be useful to explain here why you think that the reporting provided by the annuity company is incorrect.

The annuity company interpreted my financial advisor's request for total liquidation of the annuity as a 1035 rollover when in fact, it was simply a total distribution of funds. Therefore the 1099r stated that I had no tax liability (I wish). Neither company admits they did anything incorrectly. I requested a corrected 1099r from the annuity company, but they refuse. I have been in contact with the IRS. They sent the annuity company a request for an amended 1099r, but they have not issued one. I had already filed my taxes, so I need to file an amended return and add IRS Form 4852. I realize I will have to send this in rather than file the amended return electronically since TT doesn't support Form 4852, but I would like to do it through TT and print it out to send it in. But I don't know how to do it other than putting in the correct figures in the 1099r information and checking the corrected box.

When entering the Form 1099-R, there is a separate box to mark to indicate that you need to prepare a substitute Form 1099-R and after doing so TurboTax will ask you to provide explanation and will generate From 4852. This box is not the CORRECTED box. Do not mark the COORECTED box.
