The Turbo Tax program will not let me E-file my return because Form 1099-R Box 16a is blank. However, on my OPM form 1009-R, there is no box 16 or 16a.

Is this an error in the software? What do I need to do to be able to file my return.

If your form is a CSF-1099-R or a CSA-1099-R, indicate that at the beginning of the 1099-R section, since these entry screens are a bit different than a regular 1099-R.

However, Box 16 for State Distribution is normally the same amount as the Box 1 Distribution amount.

Here's instructions for How to Enter a CSA-1099-R.

Yes, entering the same about from box 1 in box 16 should allow you to efile. @1924peter

I called into TT regarding my Oh retirement 1099R and apparently this is a very hot issue for them. After trying to enter $0, none, leaving it blank, TT analyst researched and instructed me to enter the amount in box1. It went thru.
I’m not thrilled about making an entry that is not on the issued form, but I’m trusting TT to stand by their fix in order to e file.
2 yrs in a row now I have had an efile issue due to TT software issue. May be time to go another direction next year.
