My problem has been solved. However , I can't tell you what I did differently. I went back to Turbotax 2022 to look at my return and I could find where Turbotax allowed me to answer the questions to claim my QCD's. I then launched Turbotax 2023. It performed a software update and when I went to update the 1099 for my inherited IRA, the software finally asked the questions that led to my being able to claim the QCD's.

I downloaded the 10990-R form from Fidelity for my inherited IRA. It has the amount that was withdrawn (RMD) but I do not see anything about the qualified directed charitable contributions I made which was the total value of the withdrawal. When I tried to follow the instructions for entering the QCD, I can get to the 1099-R but I do not see any way to enter the QCD's. I do not get the questions that were referenced in the solution I acessed.

One thing....lBe sure you check the little IRA box between boxes 7&8.

Did you reach age 70½ before making the distribution from the IRA? If not, you are not eligible to treat the distribution as a QCD. It's your age, not the age of the decedent, that is a factor in determining eligibility to make a QCD.

If you are not eligible to have made a QCD, you can claim the charitable deduction on Schedule A.

Thanks but that is not my problem. For better or worse, I am definitely beyond 70.5. Still looking for an answer. I know I've taken the qualified charitable distributions off of my inherited IRA RMD in the past. ??? I'm going to look at more of my. past filings.
