The help says I have to switch to the interview which makes no sense. Is it really that stupid?

Filling in a form that matches the printed form I have is SO much easier than going through an interview. Is this just a missing feature or is it hidden?

The interview contains error checking that you would not benefit from if entering data directly on the forms. The interview also contains frequent Learn More links that provide value education concerning the tax issues at hand.

The interview can also guide the sequence of questions so that you give TurboTax information in a usable order.

"Filling in a form that matches the printed form" - some products, including from Intuit, are designed like this, but they are intended to be used by tax professionals. If you are not a tax professional, the interview is a better way to go.

You will have to use the interview to enter the amount from box 5 of the Form SSA-1099 before the Social Security Benefits Worksheet will be created.

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

This is Difficult??

It seems broken to have to switch to interview mode to open a form. Broken is not the same as difficult.

I'm adding the extra instructions for anyone who also can't find the (missing) SSA-1099 in Turbotax in the future.

0. Click on Step-by-Step to switch to interview mode.

1. Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
2. Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
3. Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
4. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
5. On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

6. Click on Forms to go back to Forms view and open the "Social Sec" form which is where you enter SSA-1099 data.

7. If you have more than one SSA-1099 form, add up the numbers and enter them here. (Yes, it would be less error-prone if you could fill out a facsimile of each SSA-1099 but no thanks Turbotax.)

Really, when you search for SSA-1099 or RRB-1099 it should pull up the "Social Sec" form.
