I did not see an answer to this.

When I go to the SSA 1099 form, there is already an amount there and it won't let me overtype it.

It is not even close!

I have closed and reopened my software, entered the form via forms as well as the walk-thru.

It won't let me change it!

Try this -

When you are on the section to enter the box 5 amount from the SSA-1099, click on Edit at the top of the desktop program screen, then click on Add Supporting Details. See if there are amounts listed in the Details window.
