I can't enter a 1099-LTC in 2023 Turbo Tax and the instructions do not work. Please advise how to enter the 1099-LTC?

I purchased Deluxe Turbo Tax and have Long Term Care reimbursements to enter. I received the 1099-LTC from the provider, but there is no where to enter this. It is not a medical reimbursement as it is for Memory Care.

To enter your information about a Long Term Care contract distribution reported on Form 1099-LTC, try using these steps to get started instead of the 'jump-to' link:

Go to Income, then scroll to the bottom of the section to find Less Common Income
Scroll down to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C and click Start or Update
Scroll down to Long-term care account distributions (Form 1099-LTC) and click Start or Update
Then follow step 3 that was referenced in your question to get started

Keep going through the screens until you see one that asks about Long-Term Care costs. There will be a place to enter a number of days of care, the total cost of the care received, and the reimbursements you received. The reimbursements would be the amount reported in box 1 of your 1099-LTC.

the 1099-LTC option does not show up on the list under misc income. where can I enter this data? the 1099-LTC is not on the list of forms, or sections/topics in the search lists either.

Go to Federal > Income & Expenses > Less Common Income > Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C.

On the next page, select "Start" next to "Long-term care account distributions (Form 1099-LTC)" to input data from your form and report expenses, which typically makes the benefits tax-free.

unfortunately, TurboTax Premier 2025 doesn't mention 1099-LTC as you noted above. that form name is not to be found anywhere in this year's Premier version. Again, you guys need to get this fixed for the elderly filers who may not be as able to sus out the actual way to enter this data. I spent more than an hour searching online sources to determine how to enter the information under misc medical expenses as a reimbursement. you should add this 1099-LTC topic to your FAQs and to the search terms that FIND the right place for data entry. Don't slack on this point because most filers don't get LTC income - you handle far less common items than this so please fix this and get an update pushed out ASAP.

I’m working in the 2025 version - that was in the first few posts but isnt in the title of the overall previous post. Only things listed are

- state and local tax refunds received in 2025

- 1099-MISC income

- 1099-NEC income

- 1099-K income

that’s it. The 2025 version doesnt list it as a form and 1099-LTC doesnt return any search results. Sorry for the year confusion.

@ask4gems I do not know how make less confusing. It is quite simple. In the Wages & Income section you MUST scroll down to the bottom of the page until you get to Less Common Income. Then on Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A 1099-C you click on the Start or Update button. The following screen will have the Form 1099-LTC listed.

I can't make this any simpler either. This is all I've got. I don't see what you see. Premier 2025 downloaded from TTAX website is not matching up to what you're showing. I'm reporting a bug - I solved the problem on getting the taxes filed. I just ask y'all remember the first law of software - if something has occurred, it is possible. I can't explain it, but here it is. do what you will with it.

@ask4gems You were looking in the wrong section. You were in the 1099-MISC and Other Common Income section. Not the Less Common Income Section. If you had scrolled to the bottom of the page you would have seen the Less Common Section.

well indeed it was there, buried deep. however, I entered the information in the interview steps under "medical expenses, reimbursements" since that was the only way I found to enter the information.

I do recommend a fix though - I can't explain why the form isn't listed in the "forms" or doesn't get a reference in the search tool responses. It's location in 2025 sw is different than it was in previous editions. the FAQ's and Q&A community didn't have anything mentioning it, but now this thread is there for others.

Sweet Maird, if it is this hard to find, you might need to throw a bone into the interview tool or at least ensure it is listed in the forms and in the search terms. Long Term Care reimbursements are specifically called out under the medical expenses section, but the 1099-LTC is not referenced there (see photos) and if you complete both the expenses reimbursements and the 1099-LTC info in the other income section, now that information is logged twice. It doesn't appear to be counted twice or maybe it just cancels out equally. I'm sure I'm not the first person to encounter this - a quick update to the code would make this all a lot easier.

@GoldenBailey the LTC distributions should be the name of the person the tax return is being made for if filing single, so name entry is not required. If filing jointly, you would need to locate the 1099-LTC form data entry (ref above posts on crazy process). If you are using the interview approach to completing your return, that probably won't help here. You'll need to go to the form option to enter that data under "other/less common income." If filing jointly, the instructions are to enter the total LTC distributions received, but you don't have to enter the name or names of individuals - they don't seem to want individual reporting, just the total disbursements. Odd, but that's what the TurboTax tool says... hope that helps.

Thank you the person that went thru this. You saved me a lot of time. Its obvious Turbo Tax still has not fixed this legitimate problem of 1099-LTC.
