What tax adjustment for SS between federal and state are you asking about? If you have a W-2 then you simply enter your W-2 exactly as it appears. You do not adjust anything that is on your W-2. If you are receiving Social Security benefits, CA does not tax Social Security; so all you do is enter your SSA1099 as it appears and it will only be shown on your federal return.

For Social Security checks you get, just enter it in Federal. Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:

Married Filing Jointly: $32,000

Single or head of household: $25,000

Married Filing Separately: 0

Then for California, if any of your SS is taxable on Federal it will be automatically subtracted from the CA return. So yes it is in the software. I'm in CA and get SS, it does CA right.
