topic 401K RMD noted as Pension by TURBO TAX ? in Retirement tax questions

I received a 1099R form from my former employer for the required 401K RMD for 2022. I received the RMD amount in 2 distributions; 1 I requested and the balance of my 2022 RMD requirement to close out my account so I could roll over the balance of my 401K to a traditional IRA. While processing my taxes on the TURBO TAX Deluxe program, I noted that the total 1099R amount should be applied as an RMD requirement and not as a weekly, monthly, or quarterly distribution. However, on the TURBO TAX summary page for income, the 401K RMD amount shows up in the Pension Taxable category. Will the IRS challenge me on this issue since it is under a Pension Taxable category or is this a TURBO TAX misnomer issue? How does the IRS know if I have met my 2022 RMD requitement? (I know I have!) BTW, the 1099R seems to be correct: 2a taxable amount is correct, 2b Total Distributuion is checked, Distribution Code is 7, and Fed and State Withheld looks good. Appreciate any advice or help!

TurboTax will ask if you took all of your RMD. If you would answer no TurboTax would create Form 5329 to calculate the penalty part IX.

No, the IRS will not challenge this since they get the information to match with your tax return forms, not the summary. If you entered your Form 1099-R and answered all follow-up questions then you will be good.

401(k) distributions are properly categorized as pension distributions as defined in the tax code. A 401(k) is not an IRA.

Thank you for your response!

Based on your response, my question now is: with the 401K categorized as a pension distribution, can it also be considered as part of my RMD?

Distributions from the 401(k) only satisfy the RMD for that 401(k), the the RMD for any other retirement account.
