Why do you believe that the taxable amount is less than the full amount?

A Form 1099-R reporting a regular distribution from a traditional IRA must have box 2a equal to box 1 (except for a distribution from an inherited IRA indicated with code 4 in box 7 where TurboTax requires you to enter a different taxable amount if the decedent had basis in nondeductible traditional IRA contributions).

If you have basis in nondeductible traditional IRA contributions, you must indicate this and the total year end value in all of your traditional IRAs after clicking the Continue button on the page that lists the Forms 1099-R that you have entered. TurboTax will then prepare Form 8606 to calculate the taxable amount of your traditional IRA distribution.

You will need to open return, then select Wages and Income then select the item you will need to correct, then select edit to verify that you entered the form 1099R as shown.

If you need to review the actual return to see how the Form 1099R appears, follow these steps

Sign in to your TurboTax account and open your return by selecting Continue or Pick up where you left off

Select Tax Tools from the left menu, then Print Center (on mobile devices, tap in the upper left corner to expand the menu)

Select preview this year's return, and follow any additional instructions

Thank you very much. You solved my problem. Here is the TT question that I originally should have answered "YES".

Any Nondeductible Contributions to Joseph's IRA?

Were you able to determine what was causing the error. It is doing the same for me.

Thanks.

Bjust, Perhaps you have the same issue that I had. Years ago, I made some NON-DEDUCTIBLE contributions to my traditional IRA - which allows a portion of current distributions to be non-taxable. When you enter your distributions information in TurboTax, there is a follow-up question asking if you made any non-deductible contributions to this IRA. Originally, I incorrectly answered "No" instead of "Yes". Answering yes will take you to some more information for you to enter that will have TurboTax calculate the correct taxable distributions amount to be used for taxes, establish a basis, and prepare a Form 8606 to be filed with your return.
