topic My previous apartment didn't provide me CRP because the property was under non-profit status of the foundation. Should I request RPA (Rent Paid Affidacit)? in Investors & landlords

I don't know if I should request RPA to my state government or not. Also, I don't know if this property is applicable for the tax refund because it's non-profit property (I guess).

There can be a few reasons a CRP (Certificate of Rent Paid) would not be provided.

You don't mention what the non-profit foundation is, but a health care facility wouldn't be required to provide a CRP if the rent is paid through certain assistance programs. See Calculations for Health Care Facilities on the CRP Information for Landlords page.

It's possible you don't qualify for the refund. See Who Qualifies on the Renter’s Property Tax Refund page.

But, generally, a landlord who owns or manages a rental property and rents living space to someone is required to provide a CRP to a renter if either property tax was payable in 2022 on the property, or the property was tax-exempt, but the landlord made payments in lieu of property taxes. You'd need to check with your landlord. See Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP) Requirements in the second link above.

You should double-check with your landlord to make sure that you aren't disqualified (or the property isn't exempted) for some reason.

But if you appear to qualify, you might want to go ahead and request an affidavit. See Rent Paid Affidavit on the Renter’s Property Tax Refund page.

Thank you so much!

The property I lived in last year was under my university's foundation.

The property manager told me that because the property is the non-profit status of the Foundation, they don't provide CRP. I wanted to know if I can file this property together for my tax file for 2022. I was a student last year till the spring semester and graduated. I didn't have that much income back then. Do you think I am qualified to request RPA or should I just disregard this property for my tax filing?

I really appreciate your help. Thank you so much!

A nonprofit that owns property may be exempt from property tax. Therefore, none of your rent went towards property tax and you would not qualify.
