A phd is a higher degree than a master's degree. A master's degree or a PhD are both graduate degrees.

Associate

Bachelor

Master

PhD

If you are asking because you are working on an education credit, you can get the American Opportunity Credit four times BEFORE you have earned your bachelor's degree. After you have earned a bachelor's --or used the AOC four times-- you can still use the Lifetime Learning Credit.

A Ph.D. is definitely a graduate degree.

Just curious, but isn't PhD the same thing as saying a Doctorate or Doctorate Degree?

Yes----which is why scholars with PhD 's are referred to as "Doctor..." even though they are not medical doctors.
