You do not deduct your rent paid but California does have a renters credit of $60 ($120 if MFJ) and that is claimed in the CA part of the Turbotax program

CA renters credit

The search feature of TT does not answer this question:

Where do I enter renter's credit. I mean there should be a box to check. The Search confirms that there is a renter's credit but does not say "take you there" or tell you where to find it. And I go through the forms and see nothing. I am pretty disappointed in TT this year. There are a number of questions as I work on my taxes. It asks for dollar amounts, for example, that it calculated and I must try to search and find. If it calculated those dollar amounts, why does it ask me to go find them?

But most urgently, where do I check the box or do whatever to get renters' credit on the CA return?

When you prepare your California state return,

1) There is a section that says Take a look at California credits and taxes.

2) Underneath that is a section that says Personal, home and family credits>renter credit>Start
