In older versions of TT, if you have more than one log in user ID at a financial institution (for example, for your IRA and for your wife's IRA), you used to be able to go through the "Import Transactions" process more than one time to pull the data from each login ID.

But in TT 2023, when you try pulling transactions a second time from the same financial institution, it remembers that you already pulled information from them and it just pulls that same information again. It does not take you to the login screen again where you could log in with a different ID.

Someone found a work around by clicking on the "modify import options" button and de-selecting some of the forms to import. If you do, it will take you to a log in screen where you can log in with your second ID. It will import all the forms available from that financial institution, even if you de-selected a form earlier.

This is not an obvious solution for users to figure out. TT needs to take you to the institution's log in screen every time, even if you have already imported something from that financial institution already.

Here is another solution - If you have a single broker for multiple accounts, when selecting to add another account for the same broker: Clear cookies and then search for your broker via the search bar rather than clicking the broker icon. This should allow the screen to input account information and import the data.

Thanks, but that is still not a simple, intuitive solution. TT needs to go back to the way it used to work. It used to be that every time you asked to import data it gave you the opportunity to log into your account. It should not automatically assume that because you are logging into the same financial institution you accessed earlier, that you have all of the information you need from that financial institution.

If you are experiencing difficulties importing your complete information into Turbotax, there are several things you can do. Let's mention these.

To import two different User IDs from the same firm without them canceling each other out, follow these exact steps:

Finish Account A: Import it, review the transactions, and Save your file (if on Desktop).

Log out of TurboTax.

Clear your browser cache and cookies. This is usually where the first User ID is "stuck."

Log back in and try the second import.

Alternatively, use a different browser (e.g., if you did the first one in Chrome, do the second in Firefox) to ensure no data from User ID #1 is lingering.

If TurboTax isn’t working and you’re thinking about moving on, don’t spend hours trying to fix the import. You can enter the Section Totals instead.

Instead of importing, choose "Type it in myself."

Select "Sales section totals" (summaries).

Here you would make two summary totals. One for long-term capital gains and one for short-term captial gains.

Enter the total proceeds and cost basis for each category (e.g., Short-term Covered) and othe information that TurboTax calls for ( eg: date sold, date acquired, holding period etc.)

After you have finished, you may electronically file but you will need to mail in a copy of your 1099 B along with a form 8453 to the IRS. TurboTax will give you complete mailing instructions to satisfy all IRS requirements for this provision.
