My tuition is completely paid for by the military. My 1098T shows one only semester's worth of payments to the school (box 1) but an entire year's worth of scholarship (box 5). The discrepancy makes it look like a whole semester's worth of scholarship went into my pocket when it did not. Can I report the actual amount paid to the school or do I have to go strictly off the 1098T and take a big hit?

You should report the actual amount paid to the school if your Form 1098-T does not accurately reflect the amounts paid during 2018.

You should be able to adjust the amount paid using these instructions below -

Log into your account and click Take Me to My Return (you must click this before performing the search below)
Click the search icon (magnifying glass in top right-hand corner)
Search for "1098T" and click the "jump to 1098T" link that appears
This will bring you to the Education Expenses section where you can add a student and related Form 1098-T information
There will be a blue link underneath box 2 that details what if this is not the correct amount - click that link and a new box will open for you to input the correct amount of tuition paid.
