topic TT won't let me claim MN k-12 education subtraction. I don't believe there is any income limit and all it requires is a child in K-12 school and educational expenses. in Education

What is the subtraction and who qualifies?
If you purchased educational material or services for your child’s K–12 education, you may be able to subtract your qualifying expenses, up
to the maximum amounts, from your taxable income when you file your Minnesota income tax return.
Unlike the education credit, there is no income limit to qualify for the K–12 Education Subtraction, and you may qualify regardless of your
filing status. However, the school your child attended must be located in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.

Yes, there is no income limitation. The subtraction is an adjustment to income for educational expenses paid for K-12 student qualifying children. A qualifying child for this subtraction is the same definition as for Federal Earned income tax Credit. A qualifying child is:

Younger than the taxpayer and under age 19, or under age 24 and a full-time student, or any age and permanently and totally disabled,

Who lived with the taxpayer for more than half of the year, and

Who did not provide over half of his or her own support,

Who is the taxpayer’s son, daughter, stepchild, foster child, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister, half brother, half sister, or a descendent of any of them (for example, a grandchild, niece, or nephew).

Generally, any purchase related to K-12 educational expenses or after school programs qualify. The adjustment is taken on Sch M1M as a subtraction from Minnesota income. Here is a link with more specific information on this program

There is a credit and a subtraction. The credit has an income limit, the subtraction does not.

Please check that you are applying the subtraction and not the credit.

It says, "even though you don't qualify for credit, you may still qualify for expense deduction..." I do, based on their listed qualifications (and I have in years passed with same income).

I continue, next it asks for computer expenses. I enter them. Then it says-

"Based on your entries, you do not qualify for an expense deduction." And goes on to another subject entirely.

Delete the MN return, re-add it, and start over. Make sure and indicate you have qualifying children eligible for the K-12 subtraction. You need to continue through the K-12 credit screens, which will tell you are not eligible, to get to the deduction screens.
