1098E to the wrong co-signer

My wife co-signed on a student loan for our daughter (non-dependent and MFJ).

Wife has received the 1098-E for the interest amount but daughter dear has been paying the loan off entirely by herself.

Can daughter claim the deduction even though she is not the 1098E recipient?

If daughter cannot claim this deduction/credit, how can we correct this error?

If your daughter is the borrower and actually pays the loan installments, she can claim the student loan interest deduction. She should have received a form 1098-E. She may not have received it as she could have moved. However, only one person can claim the deduction.

If the daughter is the main borrower, she can deduct the interest if she pays it. I believe that when you enter the name of the lender and click Next, there is a checkbox for "I did not receive a 1098 for this loan."

For the future, you would have to contact the lender about changing the person to receive the 1098.
