Yes, she would have to file a federal return because her earned income is more than the standard deduction.

Single taxpayers claimed as dependents must file if their gross income was more than the larger of—

• $1,100, or

• Earned income (up to $11,850) plus $350

Earned income includes salaries, wages, tips, professional fees, and taxable scholarship and fellowship grants. Gross income is the total of your unearned and earned income.

Minnesota has the same filing requirement. See Who Must File a Minnesota Income Tax Return

For Indiana residents, If you were a full-year nonresident of Indiana, but received any income from Indiana sources, you must file your Indiana income taxes.

technically, as I responded on a duplicate post. the earned income of $6400 is LESS THAN the standard deduction of $6750. the standard deduction for a dependent is the earned income + $350.

the reason to file is to get back the $445 of withholdings.

Had there been no withholdings, there would be no reporting requirement.
