      <description>&lt;P&gt;&lt;B&gt;First, it depends on whether you qualify as a dependent taxpayer.&lt;/B&gt; If you are a dependent, you cant claim education benefits on your tax return. However, if you are claimed as a dependent on your parent's tax return, they could claim an education credit for you.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Please refer to the chart on page
12 of pub 501 to see if you meet the requirements to be claimed&amp;nbsp;as a
dependent. &lt;B&gt;Please note that there are requirements listed above the qualifying
child and qualifying relative sections, and those requirements must be met as
well.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/B&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;A href="https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"&gt;https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf&lt;/A&gt;.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;B&gt;Second, if you dont qualify as a dependent taxpayer&lt;/B&gt; and you are pursuing your first undergraduate degree, you might qualify for the American Opportunity Credit, this is a partially refundable credit so you could benefit even though you dont have income. If you are not pursuing your first undergraduate degree, it would not benefit you to file a return because the other education benefits only reduce taxable income or reduce your tax liability.&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;
