topic Updating return with 1098-e in Education

I filed my return and would like to amend it. However, when I update the information, my return starts from $0 and only adds the 1098-e tax credit and not the rest of the credits that were reflected in my original return. Why is that?

An amended return only shows what you forgot or are changing. The IRS already has your original return with the original credits you took, you do not report them again.

The amended return should show if ADDITIONAL tax needs to be paid or ADDITIONAL refund should be expected. The amended return reports the difference. If you were getting a $1,000 refund on your original return, and the amended shows you should have gotten a $1,250 refund, the amended return will show a $250 refund,,,,the difference.

Be sure to print and mail the amended 1040X, it cannot be e-filed.
