topic W2 for children in agriculture in Business & farm

I am wondering how you do a W2 for a child in agriculture. My sons work on the farm and we are not taxed on what we pay them, but need to make a W2 for them. When I do a W2, I am not supposed to put anything in boxes 3 or 6, but turbotax makes you. Is there a way around that?

Our TurboTax Quick Employer Forms program has FAQ's that address the issue you are having. See below:

What if Social Security and Medicare withholding are not required for my employees?

First, check the box on the W-2 to disable the automatic calculations, because the program will test that your withholdings are correct. Make sure the withholdings in boxes 5 and 6 calculate correctly from the wage amounts in boxes 3 and 4. That will stop any error messages from running. If there is no withholding, enter zeros in the social security and medicare fields (boxes 3, 4, 5 and 6).

Don't forget to enter the wages paid to your child in TurboTax for your Agriculture business income and expenses. This will ensure you get the proper deduction for paying the wages.

Here's the link to the FAQ's: TurboTax Quick Employer Forms FAQ
